Bing Search engine is a good Google alternative and people want to extract utmost use from it.Here are some simple tweaks for Bing search engine to get effective results for you search queries on Bing.
You can tweak a little of the search engine by adding some keywords to your search query to enhance your search results. The principle behind this is that we enter some keywords which is recognised by the search engine as commands and this tweaks the search engine. Here is a list and the uses of some such keywords.
1) AND (&)- This combines two or more queries that you enter. For example, if you enter Michael Jackson + dead it will combine those keywords and gives you the search results. You may wonder that it is also the same if you enter it without AND command. This is because AND command is set as the default by the search engines.
2) OR (|)- This command would help you to get
webpages that contains either the "first keyword" or the "second keyword" but not both.
3) NOT- Excludes the term that is proceeded by NOT command. For example, if you type "michael NOT dead", then you will get the results only for "Michael" and not for "Michael dead".
4) " " - It includes the webpages that contains the exact phrases. For example if you type, ""Michael is great"", then you would get the
webpages that contains only that particular phrase.
These were some of the simple keywords. in order to get more power over the search engines use the following ones:
1) contains.(file extension) - This helps you to find videos, images and other files easily. The use of this command is, it returns the webpages that contains the extensions that your search query has. For example, if you type "images contains.jpg", it would show you the webpages that contains only the .jpg extension images.
2) site: (sitename) - This is a command well-known to everybody. This helps to search in a particular site. For example, if you enter, "site:http://www.tweakdaddy.blogspot.com/ Google", then you would get the pages of this blog that contains the word "Google"
3) translate : It helps you to translate particular words or phrases directly to the other languages.
4) location or loc - This helps you to search for the webpages with location filter, i.e., if you type "Google (loc:US)", you would get results that contain the keyword "Google" from USA.
5) url: - This is a command that helps you to check whether a URL is present in the search engine or not.
Most of the websites we come across uses Google as it customised search engine. Now, Here comes an alternative for this search option. MS Bing also now provides the search tool for your website. Here is a clear way of how to set up a Bing SearchBox.
1) To add Bing search to your website click here or go to Bing searchbox page.
2) You can access two types of search options. a) Basic SearchBox,b) Advanced SearchBox.
A basic search box is the one with which it displays the search results in the Bing website. A Advanced search box is the one in which the results are sh0wn on your own website.
3) After selecting any of the one, you will have to enter the sites through which you want the engine to search.
4) The next part is the formatting part, i.e., to customise the look and size of your search engine tool.
5) You will get the code for this. You can copy it and paste it in your blog's template.
You can now add Bing search in Google Chrome. This is a very easy task to do. If you just want a search box for Bing in the "new tab page" then all you have got to do is press "Tab" after you type the domain name in the address bar.
If you want to make it as the default search engine then click on the "customise Google chrome" option and select "options". There go to the tab, "basics". Under that you wiil find Google as the default search engine. Click on "Manage" .Change it to bing.com by selecting the bing.com in the "other search engines list". This is possible only if you had pressed "tab" in the address bar as I had told previously. If you have not done that either do it or copy the following URL and place it in the URL box that is to be filled while adding the search engine.

Here asterisk (*) acts as a wildcard in searching for the domain name.
Maybe you don't find a lot of difference with this tweak but I surely say that there are subtle differences to the search you make.

Moving on to the next feature, The Search Panel: After you enter into the Wikipedia article you will get a panel on the right side. Here you can see the contents of the wikipedia page. This panel remains on the window screen even while scrolling to help users for easy navigation.
You can also search for the facts that are present in the page by going to the "factz" tab at the top. You get all the facts arranged in a tag like structure. Opera's official site has a blogging community where you can host your blog for free. You can upload images upto 1 GB for free. This is a feature that most of the people don't know. So, in order to increase the popularity of it's hosting platform, it has made a step to import the Yahoo 360 blogs in it's blogging platform. Here is a way to add the Bing search in the new beta version Opera 10. This is a very easy task to do but still many people find it difficult. So, I thought I would give people information about what I did.
First, open Opera 10. There enter into the Tools option. Hit the preferences button and there go to the search tab. It will give options like add, delete and edit. First, select the Google search engine and click edit. Then, click on more details in the context box and copy the url that's shown.
After this go back to the search tab and click on add button, there type the search engine name and keyword you want to use. Click on more details button and you will get a space for typing the url. There paste the url you copied earlier and change at the beginning of the url from "www.google.com" to "www.bing.com" . Do not change any other part!! Your integrated search engine will be ready to use.
Note: If you just write the url as "www.bing.com" it won't work.

All you have to do is go to Google Create Custom Search Engine and there click on "create custom search engine" . From there follow the wizard and you will get your custom search engine.
I have some tips for you here while creating your search engine. While creating. you will be asked to enter the URLs of the web pages that you want Google to search for. There instead of entering domain name as "www.mydomain.com" (without inverts) enter it as "*.mydomain.com/*"(Without inverts). Here asterisk sign acts as a wildcard and tells your Goolgle search engine to search even for "mydomain.com" rather than "www.mydomain.com".

You can convert the MSWMM into other formats in Vista by using "Publish Movie" option. However, this option is not available for XP users or for the earlier version users. So, I thought of introducing this as it would help many people.
Just like in Vista you click on "Publish a movie" button, you have to click "Save a movie file" button in XP. This will open up a wizard. Follow that wizard and your movie will be in the playable format.

Here is a way to easily create a “Send To” to icon in the right click pop-up menu. I got to know about this when I was seeing the hidden folders in “Documents and Settings”. This is a very easy task but still I decided to write a post on this topic as many of the people do not know about this. Even if they know they are afraid to touch the hidden folders in their system. 1.Go to X:\Documents and Settings\tweak daddy. Note that here X: represents the basic drive of your computer and “tweak daddy” represents your profile name.
2.Now enable to “show hidden folders” option. (You can enable this by following this path in the Menu bar: Tools| Folder Options…| View| Show Hidden Files and Folders)
3.The third step is to enter into the hidden folder.( Don’t be afraid coz tweak daddy is with you). Go to the folder SendTo and place a copy of the link of the folder you want on the Pop-up list. Note that you have to place a shortcut and not the folder copy.
4.That’s it!!! The job is done with no difficulty!!! You have tweaked your computer a little bit!!

Here is the easy way to change the Startup and Shutdown sound very easily. I had already written in a post about the problem of not getting the Startup and Shutdown Sound in the computer. This is also done in the same way.
1. To change the System Startup and Shutdown Sound, go to the following address in your computer: X: WINDOWS\Media\. Here X: is the basic drive in your computer. 2. There, replace the file Windows XP Startup and Windows XP Shutdown to your desired file. 3. Then change the name of the replaced file with Windows XP Startup and Windows XP Shutdown.
NOTE: The files you replace must be copied for backup purposes. The files you replace must also be in the WAV format.

The problem here is a windows media file is deleted or not correctly installed in your computer. You can search for this in the following address of your computer. X:\WINDOWS\Media. Here X: represents your basic drive. Look in this folder for”Windows XP Startup sound” and “Windows XP shutdown Sound”. If you don't have it copy it from a friend's computer or you can get it on internet.
If these are present and still you are not getting the sound, try installing XP again.
Hello readers, Here is very simple way to extend the period limit in many trial version softwares. The thing is so simple that even a computer novice can do it in a fraction of second. I am going to show this with a simple tutorial to get your work done fast. I am trying out my idea on the software called Snag It. This is software I got in a CD. This was a 30-day trial limit software. It’s software for taking screenshots. I liked the software very much. So I tried many ways to extend the trial period of that software and came out with one successful way. Here it is for you people: 1. I just installed the software and saw the trial limit. It was for 30 days. I installed it on 30- 4- 09 2. I used it for a couple of days, till 07-05-09. There was 23 days left 3. Then, you don’t believe me all I did was I just changed the system date to the day I installed and lo! The software again had 30 day time period.
So, that’s how I extended the time period for trial version software.
P.S. This trick may not work on all the softwares, but sure to work on many.
Hello, Here is a very easy way to have your own description on your folder. When you go to the Start Menu and then when you take the mouse over the default browser it shows that “Opens you Internet browser”. Just like that I wanted a new comment to my folder that I had placed in the Start Menu. My folder’s name was My Blogs. I will give you a clear illustration about what I did: 1. First, I had placed the folder “My Blogs” in “My Documents”. 2. I created a shortcut of it and placed it on the desktop. 3. I pinned this shortcut icon in the Start Menu. 4. Right-click on that shortcut. 5. You will get a dialog box like this: 6. Write the description in the comment field and click “OK” 7. This is what you will see when you move your mouse pointer over your shortcut in the Start Menu. So, I hope this trick would give your computer more dignified look. Later you can place the shortcut in the “My Documents” folder.

All I did was I just went to the registry editor through “Run” command, there I did the following: I headed to the following strings: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE| SOFTWARE| Microsoft| Windows| CurrentVersion| Here is the image for that: In the list provided in the right side Double-click on the ProgramFilesDir. You will get a dialog box something like this. Change” C:\programfiles” to “E:\programfiles” in the Value Data box. Now, you have successfully hacked the registry. From now on, you were computer will take “E:\” as the default Program files directory. In the same way, you can also change the directory of Common Files and Wallpapers. PS: The changed Program files directory may not necessarily be “E:\”. It can be any other drive which you like.
Hello, here is a way to shutdown your computer in a way other than the conventional one. This is easy when compared to the usual way. (Going to the Start Menu and clicking the shutdown button). I came to know about this idea when I was just seeing the contents of system32 folder. I came across an icon called Shutdown. I thought of keeping a shortcut of this icon on the desktop. But, the shortcut I created did not work. So, I asked about this to my friend and he said to do the following: 1. Firstly, right-click on an empty space on the desktop. 2. Go to “new” and click “Create Shortcut” in the popup menu. 3. You will get a window like this: 4. Type “shutdown –s –t 0” without inverts in the place marked in the above image. 5. Press the “Next” button. You will be asked to type the name of the shortcut. Give the required name and press “Finish” 6. You will get a shortcut on the desktop. You can also create restart icon in the same way. All you have to do is type shutdown –r –t 0 instead of shutdown –s –t 0. And for the Log Off icon just type shutdown -s -l in the shortcut address Dialog Box
