When I was answering in Yahoo! answers I looked at the question “Unable to get XP Logon or Logoff sound”. I had heard about this simple problem many times. So I decided to write a post on this problem. This is a problem most of the XP users face when their XP is not correctly installed. I am going to give you a simple solution to this problem.
The problem here is a windows media file is deleted or not correctly installed in your computer. You can search for this in the following address of your computer. X:\WINDOWS\Media. Here X: represents your basic drive. Look in this folder for”Windows XP Startup sound” and “Windows XP shutdown Sound”. If you don't have it copy it from a friend's computer or you can get it on internet.
If these are present and still you are not getting the sound, try installing XP again.
